Ok, I'm familiar with doing a repair on Windows Live Mail. I am running the 2012 version on Windows7. The program has some bad quirks but I've been living with those for a couple of years. I am running Microsoft Security Essentials and my definitions are up-to-date. FWIW I never am in logged on mode as that has totally messed up my contact list in the past.
HOWEVER, lately after my computer has been on for some hours WLMail stops functioning. Any email I already have that I try to open come up with an error message:
"A problem has occurred while trying to open this message. A problem has occurred. Please try again."
Trying again gets the same message. Doesn't matter if the message is brand new or months old.
Then if I try to send a message, it can't find a known contact for sending the message. If I click on the messages "tab" (near the bottom of the page - it acts like I have no contacts - nada - not a one. Really it doesn't even come up with a normal display for that part of the program.
so, if I run Windows Essentials repair (always a little scary since its on the path to uninstalling WLM and losing everything) and then reboot my computer it works.
so what could have happened here? How can I really 'fix' this so I'm not doing a repairevery day.
