Windows Live does not accept my password. I type my Windows Live ID (my email address), then I click "Forgot your password?". On the next page, under "Why are you having trouble signing in?" I select "I forgot my password" and click Next.
It asks me for my Microsoft account and I enter "*** Email address is removed for privacy ***". It wants me to type the 6-character code I see. I do that and click "Next". Under "We need to verify your identity" I select "Text ********58", enter the last four digits of that phone number (9158), and click "Send Code".
I receive a text message at that number and type the provided 7-digit password reset code into the Web page under "Enter your security code". Then, under "One more time" I select "Call (***)***-**96", which is my landline phone number, and enter the last four digits of that number (1196). Then I click "Send code". I receive a phone call on my landline that gives me a 7-digit number, which I type under "Enter your security code", then I click "Next".
Under "Reset your password" I enter a 10-character password that consists of lower case, upper case and a number, then I click "Next". Under "Your account has been recovered" it says "Your password was changed". I click "Next" and I see a page that lets me login using the new password.
I successfully login to a "Microsoft | Account" page. It displays my name, date-of-birth, and geographic location, so I know I have successfully logged in to my Microsoft Account. I close the tab on the browser
I launch Windows Live Mail. It displays my email address and prompts me for my new password. I enter the password I just created and it tells me: "The email address or password is incorrect. Please try again".
