My wife's windows 7 laptop died but the hard drive survived. She bought a new windows 8 laptop and would like to move her contacts to the new system. I put her old hard drive into an external usb case. I can read files in that. I tried changing the boot order on my Windows 7 desktop and her new Windows 8 laptop to use the external USB drive as a boot drive with hopes of starting her old version of WLM and exporting the files. Those efforts were unsuccessful even with the use of the windows system repair disc.
If I can get the file default file names and the locations WLM uses, I can put them in my Windows 7 desktop that has WLM. ( I'd temporarily rename those files already in my system before copying hers into that location so as to not trash my installation. I know those files are hidden and protected. I'd also uncheck "hide protected operating system files.
She has hundreds of business contacts and is not winning any congeniality awards during this crisis. We both back up files weekly, but until this problem I never thought to periodically export and save mail and contacts too.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
