I just purchased a new HP Envy Windows 8.1 Laptop. I did a simple EXPORT Messages from Windows Live Mail of my older HP Pavilion, Windows 7 laptop.
Everything appeared to work smoothly until I IMPORT the messages on the new laptop. Note I have a large database of storage folders, some with many messages in them.
The result of the EXPORT / IMPORT was:
1) The directories in the IMPORTED storage folders were all messed up. Some looked good, others had folder names that were clearly not correct for the subfolders and messages contained within. I spent about 3 hours moving subfolders around until I finally got what appeared to be the original layout correct on the new Windows Live Mail program.
2) But if this was not bad enough, while using the new WLM, I had to retrieve a travel email from one of my subfolders and although there were only 4 messages in that folder, even though the message header/subject, etc. looked correct, the BODY OF EACH MESSAGE WAS IDENTICAL! I copied exactly the same message into each message, even though it maintained the correct subject, to/from, etc. For instance, my AVIS Rental Car confirmation email was actually my Delta Airlines Flight Itinerary. The Hotel reservation email was also the Delta Airlines flight itinerary. Every email in that folder was the same identical email body, even though the subject in the preview pane looked correct.
Now with more detailed checking, this did not happen in EVERY folder and subfolder, but it appears to have happened in many many of my folders.
Thus, my new WLM is worthless right now and I am hoping to get advice that will allow me to PROPERLY EXPORT from my old laptop WLM to my new laptop WLM without all these glitches.
