I had the same problem where my hotmail account would not accept my password using Windows Live mail but would let me access it on a web browser.
I tried downloading microsoft Essentials but it did not help.
I found many postings on the web but never did I see any solution except to delete the account. I had saved a lot in my local folders so I did not wnat to delete the account... but I created a new account and it works on the web and usually under windows live mail .
I thought I would go into my old account from the web and pull out my needed saved old messages. Now that I have a new hotmail account there is no way to choose another account so I could not login anywhere, other than my new account. At this point I poked around and found my old hotmail folders - local folders on my hard drive buried under ...q\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Hotmail (ma 96a\Inbox\Hist2012 so I deleted the account and it took my local folders with it,
Any ideas on how and why this happened - why the password did not work using windows live mail and why creating a 2nd account left me no way to select my old account to log in using a web browser or why deleting the account deleted the local folders on my hard drive? Any way to get it back?
Thanks.
Steve
