I have several user accounts successfully set up and working on my Windows 7 (64bit) computer. The Server runs MS Outlook. I have recently tried to add a new user account. The first step is to create it on the server, and I have its confirmation that this was successful. The server's Outlook generates the password, which I have not changed. I have set up the new account on my iPad, using the same password; that works fine.
My Windows computer already runs several user accounts; I used identical parameters to set up the new one, with the password given by Outlook.
When trying to collect emails, I get the following error statement from the system:
Unable to send or receive messages for the domain.server.co (xxxxxxx) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your username and password for this account.
Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
Server: 'mail.server.co.uk'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No
The Server, protocol, port and SSL details are identical to the successful user accounts. The password is the one provided by Outlook on the server. I have re-entered it several times, very deliberately and carefully with no success.
What is the problem?
Later: I still get this message; however, I have tried sending an email out from the new account; this worked and I received it on my iPad, BlackBerry phone and, surprisingly on an existing user account on the Windows machine. Still get the message above and cannot receive messages, which was the main intended function for the new account.
