EMAIL ACCOUNTS DISAPPEARING FROM WINDOWS LIVE MAIL

This issue of email accounts disappearing has happened on several occasions in Windows Live 11 and 12.  This is currently happening on a Windows 7 computer and Windows Live MailVersion 2012 (Build 16.4.3522.0110). The accounts were there yesterday. The only issue I was aware of with the emails was a junk folder for one of the missing accounts that recently would not empty.  Is this a related issue?

My hotmail account is still shown there, as is Gmail.  Other IMAP email accounts have completely disappeared from the account list in Windows Live Mail but the relevant folders are shown in ......\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\. However, the folders for the missing email accounts are empty.

I have carried out a repair via the Control Panel (which appeared to have no effect but was recommended on several other posts I have read) and will re-add the accounts one by one - a process I would prefer not to have to do again. This issue is frustrating and time consuming. Is there a quicker way to bring back accounts that have disappeared?

I have previous backups.  If I use the import function, will that import an account or just emails into an existing account and if it is the full account what happens in respect of the emails sent, received or filed since then? Do they come back as part of the next send and receive request?

Do you know what causes this to happen and how it can be avoided and why only some of the accounts are affected?

Thank you.
